Dear Inquisitor Drake,
In regards to the heretical device you asked me to examine. It is, as you suspected, made of wraithbone. Wraithbone is one of the common building materials of the Eldar and so far it has, to my knowledge, never been replicated by the Imperium. We actually have some samples in the vaults in the Obelisk if you’re interested. Check the case files for a drug ring on Baeten, or have a chat with Jaxx, Ash or myself if you want to know more. This confirms your conclusion that this device is a heretical union of Imperial and alien technology.

Wraithbone is best summarised as a semi-organic material that is psychically active. As such we activated the device in the presence of your psyker Agent Zelenko and Mechanicus Fabricator Acetae. She confirmed that there was a very feint psychic connection, detectable when the device is active. I am however guilty of burying the lead. Since we had removed the object from your ship the Trojan to the Obelisk for my examination, we have discovered something your examinations did not. The device has connected to the cogitators within the Obelisk, and provided unrestricted access to our databanks.
It took several days for Fabricator Acetae, with Agent Zelenko’s help, to track down the connection. It seems there is a similar device wired into one of the data terminals on the third floor archive room, hidden well out of sight. The reason it permits unrestricted access is because it has the personal access credentials of Lord Inquisitor Rigel Luque hard-coded into it. I looked up the name, it seems he’s been dead some 200 years.

The Guard in me wants to close the access point immediately, but this is your case, so I leave it up to you what you want to do about it. For now I’ve set up a monitor so that if anyone uses the access point alarms will go off and we can monitor the traffic, but I’m uncomfortable with it so please make your decision fast. At this point a lot of data about our investigation is already in the databanks so we’re liable to get caught with our pants down if you don’t do something soon.

Addendum: Unrelated, but it seems the relationship between Fabricator Acetae and the Techpriests aboard your ship led by Magos Valdarius is somewhat strained. I noticed when I suggested one or two of them might come down with Agent Zelenko to assist. Are we aware of this? Is this something we need to be concerned about? My knowledge of factions within the Mechanicus is almost zero, so perhaps this is just a planetside/shipside divide, akin to the relationship between the Navy and the Guard?

Is it known if data has already been exloaded? If not, we should doctor the mission and communication records to make it look like I am concerned I have ruined a fellow Inquisitor's work, and being ignorant of the Ordo Xenos' methods, would like to return her property to her. If she has already accessed the database, we have to assume she knows we're on to her, but shouldn't let on that we know she's listening, and then use it to lay a trap. Have Acetae and Valdarius access the logs, and we'll go from there.
Henceforth, speak to me directly or write on paper about this until we decide to plant something in the system.

Post scriptum: I can't pretend to understand the interpersonal intricacies of Mechanicus personnel; Valdarius and his team have been working together for quite some time, and I understand Acetae is much younger. It may simply be a clash of personalities, or Valdarius being intolerant of inexperience. I shan't pry unless you or Valdarius are particularly concerned.

Unknown. Acetae says it is implicit in the coding that nothing get logged. We're monitoring now, so any future uses will be recorded. the monitor is a standalone cogitator so anyone accessing it will not know we are watching and recording, but we have no way of knowing about anything before this.

If we have no way of knowing, we can't take the risk of our ruse being discovered. That being the case, I'll take suggestions from anyone one what precise form of deception or trap we might enact. I would suggest mentioning the location in which the pendant is buried and, if necessary, relocating said pendant to a more favourable location, then monitoring said location. I am, however, open to suggestions from all quarters should someone have a more underhanded notion. Your thoughts?

I happened to stumble across your correspondence, and was in no way reading it on purpose. At all.
But whilst we're on the subject, is there any reverse psyker mind tricks you could use to track where the other whatsamajig is now you know what data terminal the one here is attached to?
Also, do we have any idea how big a crew this bad Inquisitor is working with? I'm guessing if it's more than just her, she won't come and get it herself.
Could we leak the information to where we're moving the whatsit to, stick a tracker in the whatsit, let the bad Inquisitor cronies find the whatsit and then follow them to wherever they're holed up? That way you get all of them?
