Berk is an Ogryn who serves Inquisitor Drake as a soldier and sometime bodyguard.
Origins
Like many of his kind, Berk originally served in the Imperial Guard. Specific details are unknown as his memory was poor, but he remembers being in a large battle where a senior officer was seriously wounded. He was instructed to take the officer back behind the lines for medical treatment. He followed various instructions until he ended up aboard a ship (presumably an Adeptus Mechanicus ship judging by later developments) where it seems the officer in question (presumably very senior) perished. When he asked to be returned to his unit he was told that they, and indeed the entire Guard forces on the planet, had been destroyed.
Base Allius
Berk ended up working for the Adeptus Mechanicus on Base Allius in the Paracus system. To make him a more useful servant they upgraded him to a "Bonehead", with cybernetics enhancing his intelligence. Despite the heresy being committed on Base Allius, they do not appear to have been interested in testing their genetic changes upon him and joining him to their Heretical broodmind. He was very unhappy trapped in such a small base on an asteroid doing simple cleaning tasks, and when Inquisitor Drake assaulted the base Berk was quick to side with the forces loyal to the Emperor.
Personality
Berk is quite simple minded but, thanks to his enhancements, not unintelligent. His speech is very basic and slow and his reading and writing abysmal, but he has shown decent levels of strategy and mechanical proficiency, and will provide valuable input into team planning sessions and discussions when appropriate. He is far more practical than he is intellectual.
Berk has also learned, at some point, that Ogryns are prized as bodyguards, and taken it upon himself to assume this duty whenever he is not given other instructions. Whilst this primarily applies to Inquisitor Drake, he has extended this to other Inquisitors he has met, including once catching Max mid-air as Max attempted a flying hug at Inquisitor Lear when Berk did not yet know who Max was.
Equipment
Arriving at the Obelisk with nothing but a triple-reinforced mop, Berk has been well equipped by the Inquisition. He now carries a rippergun, a maul and a slab shield, and heavy armour. Recently Drake has also commissions an Ogyrn sized gas mask for him.
