Siveter Lund
Siveter Lund is a savant in the service of Inquisitor Kovach.
Career
Siveter Lund is the youngest of four siblings. He is short, and although not strong. is relatively quick on his feet. He has lived on-world all of his life, although he occasionally goes into orbit to visit the company's transport assets.
His family is affluent but not ostentatiously rich — the family company deals With large fixed assets and capital which produce only limited returns.
His eldest brother now runs the family business with the father.
The second eldest left ten years ago to join the Ecclesiarchy and has not returned home since.
His elder sister trained on world as a Mechaniwm assistant and has recently (~18 months ago) left the system for further training and development on the Cypra Mundi Forgeworld.
The family business (Foursight Transport LFN) is a bulk handling concern with a haulage concession from a major trade guild on world. The company handles import and export duties for the guild on world and also handles ~35% of the in-system and ~35% of long distance bulk goods and cargo haulage for the guild.
The company owns its own fleet of bulk carriers and transports (although the guild owns and operates the on-world lighters and elevators for transporting material to and from the surface) and has strong links to the local navigator houses. The navigators are contracted to provide navigation and guidance for in-system and long distance hitches.
Siveter was taught how to carry out basic accountancy, book-keeping and tithe quotations from around the age of 17. Over the next ten years, his knowledge and skill increased until he became the head of finance for the family company. At the age of 28. he left the company to work for the Administratum. This work involved auditing. forensic accountancy and regulation for the Tithes and Quotas section of the Administratum. Due to his background, Siveter specialised in shipping and haulage.
It is this work that brought Siveter to the attention of the Inquisitor.
Siveter had a hunch that an agricultural guild (Dena Grain) on the far side of the planet wasn't paying the correct tithes. When benchmarked with other guilds of similar size and operation, certain trends appeared. These included:
- Significantly more staff employed
- Higher accident frequency rates
- Higher staff turnover and training costs
- Greater operational costs and overheads
When plotted on a lognormal graph these outliers became even more apparent and were well outside of 95% confidence intervals.
These findings pointed towards either serious and severe inefficiency (unlikely, as the guild reported yearly profits) or accountancy error and serious tithe fraud. Normal protocol would have been to audit the guild immediately.
However, the audit request was blocked at a higher level of the Administratum and Siveter was removed from forensic accountancy.
When the Inquisitorial team arrived for a routine inspection, Siveter brought this to the attention of the Inquisitor.
The upshot of this was that the Dena Grain was audited and it was found that salaries, accident compensation, training budgets and other operational costs were being paid into bogus or shell accounts. This money was then being arduously redirected and laundered only to re—appear in the accounts of senior managers within Dena Grain and in the accounts of high level functionaries of the Administratum.
As a result, a clutch of senior managers in Dena Grain and three senior functionaries within the Administratum were shipped off-world for service in penal legions.
Shortly after the matter was resolved, Siveter was called into a meeting with Inquisitor Kovach and offered employment in an auditing and investigative role.
